Sardinia
As
you drive for an hour from the buzzing fishing town of Alghero,
taking the steep coastal road, with the magnificent Sardinian sea
stretching forever to your right and a moonscape rising to your
left, you may find yourself becoming lost in that other world. Such
is the subtle effect of this place, an outpost of Italian life,
situated 200km from the Italian mainland, but with all the best
that Italy offers - warm people, guaranteed sunshine, clean beaches,
fantastic fresh seafood and crisp white wine.
Arriving
in the perfectly situated old town of Bosa,
you will see its tall coloured houses built into the hillside, overlooked
by an elegant pink stone thousand year old fort and facing the palm
tree lined banks of the river Temo. Bosa
Marina is a further 3 km down river, a tiny port that is a haven
for fishing boats and yachts alike and the gateway to secret coves
in which to float.
Its beach of pure white sand and crystal
clear water was recently voted the cleanest beach in Italy. In contrast,
the rugged interior harbours hidden lakes, primitive trails, a world
of wildflowers and isolated mountain villages in which to explore.
Here is a place strangely out of time, where nature, the place of
all possibility, can be rediscovered. Open your eyes.
Climate: along with Sicily, the island of
Sardinia has the least rainfall and most sunshine in Italy, with
temperatures above the mid-twenties centigrade from May to September,
with mild winters and long, hot summers. See: dates and prices |
